Location and surroundings of Ferreries

Ferreries is a charming municipality located in the heart of Menorca, surrounded by hills and valleys that offer a unique natural landscape. It is strategically located between the cities of Ciutadella and Mahón, which makes it an ideal spot to explore the island. Its name comes from the ancient tradition of blacksmithing, although today it is better known for its peaceful atmosphere and its strong link to the craft and shoe industry.

Heritage and culture

Despite its small size, Ferreries has a rich cultural heritage. The castle of Santa Águeda stands out, an ancient Arab fortress located on a nearby hill, from where you get stunning panoramic views of the island. In the town center, the church of Sant Bartomeu is the center of local life and the scene of the annual festivities in honor of the patron saint of the municipality. Ferreries is also known for its artisan tradition, being the birthplace of the famous Menorcan shoe brand “Avarcas”.

Beaches and nature

Ferreries is the gateway to some of Menorca’s most spectacular coves, such as Cala Galdana, one of the most popular for its white sand and turquoise waters, perfect for families. Other natural gems include Cala Mitjana and Cala Trebalúger, both surrounded by pine forests and accessible on foot via hiking trails. The area is also ideal for nature lovers, with numerous routes through the Barranc d’Algendar, an impressive gorge with a rich biodiversity.
