Location and general characteristics

Alaior is a municipality located in the center-east of Menorca, with a population of approximately 10,000 inhabitants. It is located about 12 kilometers from Mahón, the capital of the island, and has an excellent road connection. It is known for its agricultural, industrial and touristic character, combining tradition and modernity. Its town center stands out for its typical Menorcan architecture, with whitewashed houses, narrow streets and a large number of local stores and services.

Tourist areas and beaches

Within the municipality of Alaior are two of the most important tourist areas of the island: Son Bou and Cala en Porter. Son Bou is the longest beach in Menorca, with more than 3 kilometers of golden sand and shallow waters, ideal for families. Cala en Porter, on the other hand, is a cove of fine sand surrounded by cliffs and known for its lively leisure offer, such as the famous natural cave Cova d’en Xoroi, which offers spectacular sea views at sunset.

Assets and services

Alaior has a rich historical and cultural heritage, highlighting the Talayotic settlement of Torre d’en Galmés, one of the largest and most important of the island. It also has a complete range of services, including supermarkets, health centers, schools and a varied gastronomic offer based on Menorcan cuisine. The municipality is also an important industrial center, with an outstanding production of Mahón-Menorca cheese, one of the most representative products of the island.
